The Course
This is a full time course lasting for one academic year. The course lasts approximately 38 weeks from late August through to the end of June. The subjects offered are Design & Technology, English, ICT, Maths, Music, Modern Foreign Languages, P.E. and Science. There are two school placements, the first one for the Autumn term and the second for the Spring and part of the Summer terms. We aim to place you in schools that will be appropriate for your needs and that will give you a range of relevant experiences.
Should there be any particular gaps in your subject knowledge and skills, the relevant Lead School will provide you with additional opportunities and support to reach the expected level of competence.
In order to be awarded PGCE with QTS you will have to show by the end of the course that you meet all the national standards for QTS together with the University criteria for PGCE.
Assessment will be by four written assignments, lesson observation during teaching practice, a portfolio of evidence matched to the standards and successful completion of the QTS skills tests in numeracy, literacy and ICT.
