Secondary SCITT
A SCITT is a School Centred (i.e. the bulk of the training is completed in schools) Initial Teacher Training programme that leads to a Professional Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
The Suffolk & Norfolk Secondary SCITT programme aims to bring together the very best of school centred and academic training. The training is provided by a partnership of about 70 schools from Suffolk and Norfolk, which includes several Training, Leading Edge or Specialist Schools as well as the UCS (University Campus Suffolk), Suffolk and Norfolk Local Authorities. You will be taking part not only in an intellectually stimulating course but also in one that provides an in-depth experience of the classroom environment and its associated issues.
The course will give you the opportunity to work full-time in a school environment and to be part of the school community. You will observe good teachers at work and be able to work alongside them. You will take part in teaching with expert practitioners and be able to teach for substantial and sustained periods in both your placement schools. The course has an excellent and proven record both in terms of employment for trainees and as an outstanding preparation for the first year of teaching. The overall aim of the course is to produce Newly Qualified Teachers who consider and reflect upon the purposes of education as well as having high levels of knowledge, understanding and skills in the learning and teaching of Secondary age children.
