The Secondary SCITT Programme offers you quality training in highly regarded local schools providing you with excellent employment opportunities.
During your training you will be taking part not only in an intellectually stimulating programme but also one that provides an in-depth experience of the secondary school environment. The induction training course at the end of August/ start of September gives you the opportunity to network with trainers and other trainees and prepares you for your first school placement. You will become part of a vibrant school community from day one of the school year and for substantial periods of time. During this time you will develop your teaching skills whilst working alongside dedicated and experienced teachers. Each half term you will take part in challenging and engaging training activities led by high quality trainers; some of these will be subject-specific and others, which bring all trainees together over a 2 or 3 day period, will focus on developing your wider professional skills.
Qualifications
On successful completion, you will be awarded QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and PGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education). This provides an excellent basis for embarking on a Masters in Education once your teaching career has been established.
Employment
Employment opportunities are excellent as SCITT trainees are highly sought after by local Headteachers. Last year 100% of trainees secured a job with many being offered a post in their placement school. Large numbers of former SCITT trainees have gained promotion early in their teaching careers and now hold posts of responsibility within their schools. They have also been keen to continue their involvement with SCITT by supporting trainees currently on the programme.
Partner schools
The Secondary SCITT enjoys excellent relationships with about 70 schools throughout Suffolk and Norfolk as well as the UCS (University Campus Suffolk) and the two Local Authorities. The staff within our partner schools are highly experienced in teacher training and are committed to providing a top quality experience to enable you to develop your professional practice to a high level of competence.
Support for trainees
Former trainees speak very highly about their training and the support they receive, citing the quality of support from all their trainers and tutors as a real strength of SCITT programme. As you progress from observing other teachers to teaching your own lessons, you will receive informative guidance and constructive feedback. Throughout the programme, you will be encouraged to reflect critically on what you experience in order to deepen your understanding of young people’s learning.
